in our state every week.

The following statewide statistics regarding domestic violence are taken from information compiled and distributed by the Texas Council on Family Violence and the National Domestic Violence Hotline.

In our state:

  • Approximately two women are killed by family violence every week.

  • Over 185,000 incidents of family violence were reported in 2003.

  • Over 913,000 women were battered in 2003.

  • 3 out of 4 Texans have either experienced family violence or know a friend or family member who has.

  • Almost half of all Texans have experienced at least one form of domestic violence.

  • 73% of all Texans believe that domestic violence is a serious problem in Texas.
