The Prescription for the Next Step legal team provides emergency legal relief, at no cost, to victims of family violence. Victims are referred to P.N.S. staff by other agencies, area physicians and police, local hospitals, and Noah Project shelter staff.
The P.N.S. attorney works to obtain protective orders and other legal remedies that provide safety for victims and their families. Often, the foundation laid by the P.N.S. staff while obtaining a protective order is a crucial component of a later companion criminal case.
Although the Prescription for the Next Step program is unable to provide assistance with divorce cases, the staff works hard to ensure that our protective orders are more than "just a piece of paper" by ensuring that the orders include provisions for spousal support, child support and custody, division of property/debt, and rigorous post-decree enforcement of BIPP compliance.
